Preemie size is 9.5 in. x 13 in., 2x6x2 ply. Infant size is 12 in. x 16 in., 4x6x4 ply standard or 4x8x4 ply premium. You go through SO many diapers with newborns that prefolds are truly the most practical choice. When Morgan was a newborn we had 36 prefolds in our rotation and we washed diapers every day. Newborns also grow so fast that pockets and AIOs are a more expensive choice. Our prefolds are really soft and get more so with repeated washing. The unbleached variety are also even better for the environment, because they don't get treated with the chemicals that the bleached ones do. The con with prefolds is, of course, the folding. Some parents really want a more "disposable-like" diaper. Folding, though, is really easy once you get the hang of it. So overall, if you are trying to cloth diaper on the cheap, you can't go wrong with prefolds and a few good covers!
